Report June Austria


Comenius topics that are realized in Scheffau during the school-year 2009/10:

at the beginning of the year the children could choose from 3 groups (beside the 'normal' classes): multi-sport, healthy eating and french. We could open all 3 groups with more than 15 children.

Parents were informed about healthy eating and healthy snack - we had 2 parent-teacher-conferences with the topics of comenius, one with the organisation AVOMED (Arbeitskreis für Vorsorgemedizin - group of preventional medical care) about Legends in nutrition like light-products, sugar in jogurts and so on.

We had units with our Kneipp-fit-Trainer, children learned about the Kneipp-philosophy that is based on five pillars: water, healthy eating, herbs, physical exercise and 'life and order'.

We started the pause-experience with several other schools in Tyrol: Gesunde Jause - Bewegte Pause. (Healthy snack - pause on the move. We had 20 minutes for the pause, now we have 30 minutes: 10 minutes for eating, and afterwards 2o minutes for moving on - inside or outside the school (5x10minutes more for moving = +1 hour of sports more each week.)

We had several healty snacks prepared by the children themselves.
We had a week of sports and healthy eating end of march with a school from Belgium.

We had sports-days like ski-days and a track-and-field-athletics-day.
We had also a track-and-field-athletics training for all of our children.

We take part in the pilote-phase 'Schmatzi' - we test material for classes about healthy eating.

2 of our 4 main-teachers took part in special-trainings and have their certificates now: Christine for healthy eating, Nicole for 'Moving school, moving classes' (moved learning, how to integrade movement in learning)

Our NA was at school on 7th may for a monitoring-visit, we are still waiting for their report.
But they were impressed of our work and the sustainability of our work.

We try to connect movement with our teaching-methods, children are moving a lot while learning. They change f.ex. their working-places and sitting-positions (sit on different seats/balls, lay, stand), we offer them possibilitiess to move while learning (moved vocabel-training) - we try to put this on photos and videos on here so that you can see it.

We support children in new moving-ideas for the break, f.ex. girls dance, they do their own corgrahpies, some children started to bring their hula-hoops...

And... children can always stand up and go drinking water during class. They have also their drinking-bottles that they bring from home.
